Concert Across America To End Gun Violence

We will be holding our Concert Across America at Wire in Berwyn, Illinois. Beginning at 4:00 p.m., the show will feature performances by School of Rock Oak Park, Add 2, a singer/songwriter showcase featuring, Cheryl TomblinBlake Christiana (Yarn/NC) Terry White (Cannonball/Chicago), and will be headlined by Chicago’s own Tributosaurus doing the songs of Neil Young. We are expecting participation from local politicians and activists, and frank conversation about the problem of gun violence in our community. We expect a sold-out crowd (450) and the event will be linked to others that evening through social media, accessing a combined social media network of our non-profit partners expected to exceed 500,000. We have set a goal of raising $20,000, and net proceeds from the show will benefit Peace Hub Chicago and the Institute for Non-Violence-Chicago, two local organizations working on the front lines of this problem in the Austin neighborhood and Greater Chicagoland.

What is The Concert Across America To End Gun Violence?

September 25th is the congressionally designated day of remembrance of murder victims. Firearms murder approximately 12,000 Americans each year, and another 20,000 die from gun suicides and accidental shootings. Perhaps, there is no greater urgency to address the deleterious impact of gun deaths than in the City of Chicago and the surrounding Chicagoland communities.   Given the epidemic of handgun violence throughout our nation, a coalition of local organizations across the nation will join for The Concert Across America to End Gun Violence.   We will use this day to compel our elected officials to do more to curb gun violence and to keep guns out of the hands of violent individuals and the mentally ill. To incite awareness and action, local Chicagoland organizations will be sharing in this day of musical activism to compel awareness, action, and to raise funding for non-profit agencies that provide support in communities ailing from ramped gun violence.

Our local participation in this national event will be at Wire, 6815 W. Roosevelt Road, Berwyn, IL. This event will be connected through social media. Current combined social media outreach of non-profit partners is at 407,454 (Facebook) and growing. I am writing to ask you to join us as a local sponsor this year. Our goal is to reach $20,000.00. Net proceeds from our local Concert Across America will be donated equally between The Institute for Nonviolence Chicago and Peace Hub Chicago, providing services and programs in our Austin community, and greater Chicago. Sponsorship submissions should be made payable to The Veltway Corporation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit community development corporation, and you will receive a receipt for your tax deductible donation.

We hope you will help us achieve this goal and join us as a local sponsor of The Concerts Across America Against Gun Violence. Together we can make real progress on gun violence in America. I look forward to speaking with you soon. Thank you for doing your part to combat this crisis.
